It's Easter soon! We're all looking forward to a few cohesive days off and a chance to spend quality time with our favourites.
Perhaps you've been invited to a lovely long lunch. Perhaps you'll be hosting one yourself. It's got us pondering the well mannered question ...
"What shall I bring?"
An equally good mannered host will always answer, "Just yourself". But in actuality, we must never arrive empty handed. Leaving us considering ...
What is the best way to gift a host that has (almost) everything?
THE THOUGHT COUNTS
The intention behind gifting a host is an expression of gratitude. To say thank you for her (or his) time and thoughtfulness preparing and entertaining at their event.
The investment in a thank you gift does not have to be equal to what is being received however one should always consider what will be contributed by a host.
Will you be attending the event by yourself? With your partner or perhaps, entire family? Will your host be providing food? Drinks? Decorating or styling especially? Further entertainment?
Be sure your thank you gift reflects that you have considered the effort of your host.
A UNIQUE CHOICE
Traditional gifts for a host are of course, a bouquet of flowers, a bottle of wine or a small gourmet treat. All of which are lovely and will certainly be appreciated ... but generally forgotten post the event.
We like the idea of making a unique choice and giving a symbol of gratitude that can be experienced over and over. Depending on how well you know your host's personal and life style consider ;
A hand wash by Aesop. Always a beautiful choice for the kitchen or bathroom. Complimented perfectly by a set of Købn
A selection of notebooks from the MiGoals
collection. Perfect for a lover of travel, business or creative musing.
Alongside a thoughtful gift, there is nothing nicer (or well mannered) than a hand written card. A confirmation of what your gift means and your gratitude for your host's consideration in inviting you to the event.
In a day of short handed text messages, take the time to write not just a thank you to your host but a notation on what your relationship means to you and what you are looking forward to experiencing in the future.
